Welcome to Tiffany Basket, where playful storytelling is presented from baskets, bags or trays, filled with colourful trinkets and lovely miniatures!
I’m Jermaine and mom to two highly energetic boys ages 7 and 4. We love reading and sharing the joy of reading, especially locally themed books based on our sunny island, Singapore.
Why Tiffany Basket?
I have been reading to my older boy since he was a baby, however it was getting harder to keep his attention to the stories. To interest and engage him in reading, I started introducing puppets to our bedtime stories, then LEGO animals, then building blocks, soft toys, cube puzzles, craft materials, hands-on activities and many many more (to come)…

There’s no end to the possibilities we can introduce to bring the stories alive! There were so many little things to prepare along with the book that I soon started using a basket for our bedtime stories. As I researched for more playful storytelling ideas, I soon discovered what I have been doing is known as “story basket” or “treasure basket”, and b’cos the baskets are in Tiffany (my favourite colour), hence Tiffany Basket!

Play to Learn, Learn to Play
Mom, can you play with me?
This is one question my older boy asked me every night, with a longing look. But, what shall we play? How can we play? It’s sad how we have lost that curious and playful child in us. Prompted by little one’s invitation to play, I started asking myself what I enjoyed playing as a child. Masak-masak (which means ‘to cook’ in Malay language) was the first play idea that came into my mind. Locally, it has an extended meaning of pretend play or role-playing. I have no early childhood background but I was lucky to have many opportunities to collaborate and learn from early childhood and special needs educators and professionals at work. Other than pretend play, small world play and sensory play are our hot favourites now.
